FAQs


1. I registered for Boot Up, when will I hear back about the program start?

Everyone who signs up will be invited to participate. You will receive an email 3-4 days before the start of your program with a link inviting you to the Slack. Join the Slack ASAP when you receive this email.

  • If you’re not sure if you registered, check your email for a registration-form submission. If you received one, you are on our list!

  • If you haven’t registered yet, sign up here.


2. How do I join the Boot Up Slack?

You should have receive an email 3-4 days before the start of your program with a link inviting you to the Slack. Join the Slack ASAP when you receive this email.

  • If you registered for this month, see Question 1 above.


3. What team am I in?

You will be sorted into a Learning Group that meets at a time you indicated on your registration form. You will then be added to a private slack channel (#team-name) where we will tell you your meeting time.

4. When are my online meeting times?

Your meeting time is based off of the availability you chose when you signed up. You should have received a confirmation email subject line “"Book your calendar”.

You will be assigned a meeting time once you are placed in a Learning Group Team (see Question 3 on when you’ll be added to a Learning Group).

  • Check your email for the “Book your calendar” email when you signed up

  • If you are still lost, ask your team for help!


5. How do I join my Learning Group’s online meeting?

You should have been placed into a private Slack channel with your Learning Group. Message the group and your Team Lead should send you a link to your online meeting.


6. What material am I supposed to prepare for our online meeting?

  1. Refer to the Meeting Pages in the Syllabus

  2. Click on your upcoming meeting

  3. Under “To Review Before Meeting” you will find Module link(s). This is the content you can review before your meeting.

  • For example: Meeting 1 page will provide you with a link to Module 1 from Climate Change Academy and will be discussed at Meeting 1.

Note: you can read as many or as few of the available resources as you’d like. We recommend reading at least the first two resources to better participate in group discussions.


7. When is my next Learning Group online meeting?

Ask your Learning Group in your team Slack channel. If you’re not in a Learning Group yet, see Question 3 above.


8. What do we cover during the online meetings?

Check out the Structure section of the Syllabus. Each meeting has a suggested Agenda with ice-breakers and discussion questions for your team to review!

9. I’m a Team Leader, what do I do?

Glad you asked! Here is a page that covers Team Leader responsibilities.


10. What if I have to miss a meeting or show up late?

Communicate this with your team! The only note on our end is to be mindful of your team members’ time. Incentive to participate in more meetings is a free Booted Up Badge for attending 6+ of the 8 meetings.


11. What if I can’t participate in Boot Up anymore?

We’re sad to see you go this time around. Here are a few options:

  • Time conflict or Overcommitted: Feel free to sign up again at a later date! We plan to keep offering Boot Up each month.

  • Community-component of Boot Up is not for me: Totally understandable! Feel free to learn at your own pace at Carbon Removal Academy.

  • I only want to know the basics: Check out Heidi Lim’s “We Need to Talk About Carbon Removal” for an overview introduction to CDR.

  • Not intersted in CDR: Best wishes on your next ventures!


12. Who curated the Boot Up content?

Boot Up content was curated by John Sanchez with the help of the AirMiners community. After a personal journey of learning about carbon removal, he created Climate Change Academy to share with the world!


13. Will Boot Up Material still be available after I finish the course?

Yes! You will still have access to this site. Or you can directly interact with the content at Carbon Removal Academy!


14. Can I invite a guest to a meeting?

Yes! No problem with it on our end. We recommend you ask your team as well if they feel comfortable with it.


15. Why all the cdr memes?

Why not? Might as well have fun learning about climate chaos! !


16. I still can’t figure out what to do

If you’re in the Slack:

  • Ask in one of the group channels

  • Ask your team

  • Send John or Giulia a Direct Message
