I’m a team leader, now what?

Thank you for volunteering to be a Team Lead! Boot Up would not be able to run without your help, and we greatly appreciate you.

Boot Up is a collaborative, autonomous, volunteer-based learning effort. Since Boot Up is organized by volunteers, we need Team Leaders to help set up Learning Group meetings to ensure amazing carbon-removal discussions can take place!

On the first day of Boot Up:

Today, please do the following:

  1. Set up recurring 1-hour online meetings over the next 4 weeks

    1. Your meeting times are posted into your team’s channel

    2. Invite your Learning Group members to the meetings. We’ll provide you with their emails

    3. There are a total of 8 meetings for Boot Up, two meetings per week

  2. Interface with other team Leads and the Boot Up Organizers

    1. You’ve been added to a #team-leaders Slack channel

  3. My team lead didn’t show up, I’m stepping in

    1. Thank you! Follow the steps mentioned in the welcome message for your team’s channel

That’s it for today.

Over the next 4 weeks, if your team has questions over the next 4 weeks, see if you can answer them (we reference the FAQ page a LOT)

Is there anything else I should be preparing prior to our meetings?

Past Team Leaders have also had fun taking on small initiatives (pre-meeting reminders, meeting recaps)- this totally up to you! If team members have questions (e.g. time-conflicts, where to find learning material, meeting agendas, etc.) feel free to refer them to the Syllabus or FAQ .

Who can I ask for help?

If you have any questions or concerns, send a message to the #team-leader channel in the Slack!

The role of Boot Up Organizers is to (a) sort you into teams (b) provide you with educational content & discussion questions and (c) help the Team Leaders be successful.

What makes a good Boot Up meeting?

  • The meetings should be 1 hour long. We recommend you plan to end promptly so teammates don’t feel pressured to stay or be late for other obligations. Of course, you can all stay on longer but

  • We recommend Google Meet or Zoom Premium for hosting virtual meetings. All participants should have signed up with a Gmail, otherwise -it’s also likely most people already have a Zoom account. The Free version of Zoom unfortunately only works for 40 minutes.

  • If the groups feel too large for balanced discussion, feel free to consider trying break-out rooms or splitting into smaller groups.

  • We’ve provided suggested meeting agendas for each meeting, accessible via the Syllabus or under BOOT UP RESOURCES, above. Here is a link to the Meeting 1 agenda to help get you started.

If you have any questions or concerns, send a message to the #team-leader channel in the Slack!
