Helpful Information and Readings to Prepare for Meeting 1

This is a self-regulated study. You’re welcome to read and explore as little or as much as you’d like!

Note:

  • Be sure you have an account with Zoom before your team’s first meeting! Here’s a link to Zoom’s sign-up page should you need to create a Zoom account.

  • Only your teammates will join the meetings - there are no moderators, experts, or AirMiners staff that guide discussions. Again, this is a “book club” style learning and connecting experience!

With limited time, we’d recommend you focus on the resources in the “High Flyer” section. The same applies for each module, but the more you or your teammates can get through, the better! Feel free to “divide and conquer” the resources amongst the group if needed.

Guiding Questions on Reading

Guiding Questions:

  1. What jumped out at you as interesting or surprising in this module? Any particular striking facts or statistics that you made note of?

  2. How can we quantify the scale of the entire carbon removal problem? What about for particular carbon removal solutions?

  3. How does carbon removal fit into the broader natural carbon cycle?

  4. What are the biggest challenges that you see in reaching gigaton scale carbon removal? When do you think this will happen? (10 years? 50 years? Never?)

  5. Which NETs are you at this point most bullish about? Why?

  6. From an environmental justice perspective, what communities are most at-risk of bearing the excess-carbon burden? The least? How can CDR applications better aid, involve, and include the more-vulnerable communities?
