FAQs
Program Start
I registered for Boot Up, when will I hear back about the program start?
How do I join the Boot Up Slack?
Where do I get the link to the Boot Up Orientation ?
Everyone who signs up will be invited to participate. You will receive an email about one week before the start of your program with a link to the Boot Up Orientation. Upon completing the orientation materials & submitting the form, you will receive a link to join the Slack. You’ll have 48 hours to review the orientation materials and join the Slack before we deactivate the Slack link, after which - you’ll have to sign up again for the next month’s cohort.
If you’re not sure if you registered, check your email for a registration-form submission. If you received one, you are on our list! If you haven’t, you might have typed your email incorrectly during resistration.
If you haven’t registered yet, sign up here.
Learning Group Teams
What team am I in?
Where are online meetings held?
When are my online meeting times?
Who joins the meetings?
After you join the Slack, you will wait a few days until all cohort participants are in the Slack. After the Slack link is closed, which is a few days before your first meeting, we’ll sort you into teams. Each team will have a Slack channel where you can communicate with your team. Your team will meet at the time you indicated when you signed up (if you forgot what times you signed up for, it should be written in the confirmation email you should have received upon signing up). We will also post your meeting time in your team’s Slack channel.
You will meet with your team on a virtual online platform. There are no assigned moderators, experts, or AirMiners staff that join in on your meetings - again, these are “book club” style discussion groups.
We provide each team with a Zoom meeting room link. If, however, your team prefers to meet on another platform (such as Google Meet), you are welcome to organize yourselves accordingly.
Learning Material & Meetings
What material am I supposed to prepare for our online meeting?
What do we cover during the online meetings?
When is my next Learning Group online meeting?
Can I invite a guest to a meeting?
Is the Zoom meeting link the same for each meeting?
Start by watching the Boot Up Orientation Video.
Learning Materials & Meeting Agendas is found under the CONTENT section above.
Navigate to “CONTENT” and select the meeting that your team is currently studying for. From there, you’ll see a big button that takes you to the associated reading materials/module page that includes a numbered list of resources to study. If you’re short on time to study, we recommend that you read through the “High Flyer” resources at the very least.
If you’re not sure when your next meeting is, ask your team in your Slack channel. If you’d like to invite a guest, it shouldn’t be a problem: we recommend you ask your team as well if they feel comfortable with it.
You’ll meet at the same Zoom link provided to you at the start of Boot Up - when you were first sorted into your team.
Commitment & Time Conflicts
What if I have to miss a meeting or show up late?
What if I can’t participate in Boot Up anymore?
Communicate this with your team! The only note on our end is to be mindful of your team members’ time. We ask that you can dedicate enough time to Boot Up to attend at least 7/11 meetings and prep 2 hours of readings per week (1 hour of reading/meeting). That works out to about 4 hours per week of Boot Up time!
If you feel like you can’t participate at the moment, we’re sad to see you go this time around. Here are a few options:
Time conflict or overcommitted: Once teams are formed, we won’t be moving people around. Feel free to sign up again at a later date! We plan to keep offering Boot Up each month.
Community-component of Boot Up is not for me: Totally understandable! Feel free to learn at your own pace by going through resources within the CONTENT section.
I only want to know the basics: Check out Heidi Lim’s “We Need to Talk About Carbon Removal” for an overview introduction to CDR.
Not interested in CDR: Best wishes on your next ventures!
Boot Up Content & Memes
Who curated the Boot Up content?
Will Boot Up Material still be available after I finish the course?
Why all the carbon removal memes?
Can I be a carbon removal memelord?
Boot Up content was curated by John Sanchez with the help of the AirMiners community. After a personal journey of learning about carbon removal, he curated the resources to share with the world!
You will still have access to this site, it’s public for anyone to use.
And why not have memes? Might as well have fun learning about climate chaos! Post your memes to the #general channel on Boot Up Slack for all to see!
Graduation
What are the requirements to “graduate” from Boot Up?
Where do I get my Boot Up Badge?
Does Boot Up offer a LinkedIn digital badge or course certificate?
The criteria for being recorded as a “graduate” in the Boot Up records is to attend and contribute at 7 out of 11 of the sessions.
Graduates are rewarded with a limited edition Boot Up badge (shown at right). You’ll have the option to get the badge mailed to you when you fill out the Graduation Survey at the end of Boot Up.
Boot Up does not offer a digital LinkedIn badge or certificate upon graduation. Boot Up is meant to be “book club” style learning, rather than an official course.
I still can’t figure out what to do!
